About The Float Series
Float is an ongoing body of work investigating how light, atmosphere and material shape our perception of space. Through painting and drawing, the collection explores interval, suspension and visual rhythm to create environments that invite sustained looking rather than immediate interpretation.
Developed over many years, Float has evolved into a distinct visual language for investigating spatial abstraction. Layers of translucent color, restrained mark-making and carefully calibrated shifts between compression and openness create paintings that reward close observation while maintaining a quiet architectural presence.
As Float constructs space, edges dissolve, forms emerge and recede, and space is experienced through perception rather than representation. Each painting invites viewers into an atmosphere that unfolds gradually through movement and sustained attention.
The Investigation
Float investigates the ways light, atmosphere and material influence the experience of space. The collection examines the perceptual conditions that allow space to feel open, suspended or compressed. The paintings invite viewers to experience subtle shifts in depth, rhythm and interval as forms gradually emerge, overlap and dissolve.
This investigation is grounded in observation rather than representation. Changes in color temperature, transparency, edge quality and spatial pacing become the primary structure of each composition, allowing atmosphere itself to function as the subject.
The Visual Language
Over time, Float has developed a consistent visual language built from layered translucent color, restrained linear elements and carefully controlled spatial relationships. Each painting balances movement with stillness, allowing visual activity to unfold gradually rather than all at once.
Intervals between forms are treated as active components of the composition. Compression and release, softness and definition, density and openness work together to create paintings that remain visually calm while sustaining prolonged observation.
Evolution
Float has evolved through years of sustained studio research across drawing, painting and mixed media.
