Little "Luna No.5" in a soft and sagey contextual frame. I like mocking up the artwork in-situ to not only help show how it could look, but to potentially enhance or change the feel of a piece. Thoughtful framing can add so much to an artwork. I tend to love oversized mat boards with loads of space between the art and a gigantic frame, but I know when to pull it all in and go for a minimalistic streamlined approach too. The work often lets you know what it needs, right?

The heavy weight on the bottom paired with the airiness in the composition...and then I layered shots of electric-like white organic shapes to enhance the overall contrast and textural aspects.

This place never gets old. I don't know why...you would think it would but it seems like I experience something different each time. A warm Fall day - two young women with a 12 pack of bagels thought to have a pleasant bagel and cream cheese lunch. Little do they know...the ducks are relentlessly charming little beggars. The women had to move away 4 times, bagels in their hands..to my delight. Go duckies go! 🦆

Detail image of "Luna No.3" 🌜 to help show diversification of the use of mediums. I absolutely love throwing everything and the kitchen sink at my work, but sometimes it means the work breaks. This approach can be ok at times because it's part of a natural phase of experimentation to discover how far you can push a particular medium. For the Luna series, I used block printmaking ink to introduce the soft feathered white petals and bright white highlights.

Not my people. Just random strangers. I enjoy snapping photos of situations in the moment. My object of affection is "Laocoön" by El Greco which I had not been able to visit for a little while. I'm not sure why, but the curators seem to keep moving it around in the museum. It's like going on an treasure hunt...or maybe it's just me. I once traveled across the country just to see this painting.

I fell in love with random, sporadic photography decades ago while I was in Chicago. I took a crappy one-click pocket camera to the shoreline and photographed people/ figures for a painting project I was working on at the time (I needed more anatomical information). When I got the little prints back I laughed out loud. I had caught people in normal, absolutely magical moments. Simply being.

A pleasant coincidence. "Keelmen Heaving in Coals

A pleasant coincidence. "Keelmen Heaving in Coals by Moonlight" - Joseph Turner. Operative word: moonlight. 🌜

While not one of my major artistic influences over the years, I do look at Turner for lighting hints and answers from time to time. His use of white and black to this day, makes me happy. You would think this painting is enormous, like 8x10 ft. because of the way it feels. But no, it's mid-size-ish. And I'm pretty sure he troweled a little with his palette knife...the white is thick, rich and frosting-like. Yes, I got that close to it what can I say. I HAD to.
