Studio Update abstract landscape oil painting by fine artist Sara Richardson

This probably seems a little funny. Spring is usually associated with vivid color and perhaps a pastel palette but my new Spring 2017 paintings are aggressvie black and white landscapes. This group of paintings are a transitional leap from a set of acrylic black and white paintings I completed last month.

I wanted to keep exploring the ideas I discovered while working on the acrylic paintings and introduce additional mediums ie oil paint and pigment sticks. I’m going to go ahead and say it, I love the way these paintings are developing…I’ve always been a physical artist and this group of works show some of my natural artistic strengths. The paintings may take a little bit longer to dry because of the thick layers of paint and I used my ‘special’ safflower medium however, I am hoping they will be finished and ready for purchase mid-April.
